We are sharing with you our design tips and principles we use. We invite you to share which is your favourite, which one you find least helpful and which one you would introduce. In architecture and design one always learns something new. We would be happy to hear from you.
DESIGN TIP #1
We love light. We strive to introduce light everywhere possible. It is easier to close the shutters and draw a curtain than build a window.
DESIGN TIP #2
External spaces form part of the house. We always seek to establish a connection between indoors and outdoors.
DESIGN TIP #3
The kitchen is the heart of the house. Then the island unit is the pacemaker. Make sure the layout allows for one.
DESIGN TIP #4
When choosing tiles look for high slip-resistance. Large format tiles makes the room look more spacious.
DESIGN TIP #5
Design for the future. Don’t follow trends. They pass.
DESIGN TIP #6
Incorporating storage in all odd angles and utilise space under eaves.
DESIGN TIP #7
Skylights are an excellent solution to deep and prolonged spaces. Skylights allow for natural light to wash the building
DESIGN TIP #8
Allow for ample design time. It costs less to make changes on paper than making them later on site.
DESIGN TIP #9
Allow for 8-10% in your budget for the unforeseen or caveat. Working with your architect to meet your budget should be part of the early design discussions.
DESIGN TIP #10
Any building can be converted. Any! A smart layout, adjustment to the services to meet contemporary needs may save instead of building new.
