The Old Forge
The Old Forge, a 19th-century former forge, has been transformed into a stunning 2-bedroom family home. Nestled in the green belt around London, this unique property offers a blend of old and new with original industrial elements seamlessly integrated with modern design and functionality. Obtaining planning approval was elaborate as the building was located in a listed conservation area. Our design concept was to showcase the forging elements of the original building and retain as many original features as possible.
The original industrial furnaces were converted into smaller residential fireplaces and the original roof trusses were rebuilt to accommodate the original roof angle and volume. The house now features 2 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a cloakroom. Windows were replaced to suit the original building, and the rear garden was dug for outdoor space and includes a water feature. The Old Forge is a truly one-of-a-kind property that blends old and new for a beautiful and functional family home.
Small touches, such as a light in the reinstated chimney and a bee brick, were added for added detail.
